Weaning, Whining, and Wilting
Carrie is weaned. I can hardly believe it. Where did those little babies go?
Of course it's a major transition for Marcia, a hornomic convergence, if you will. She's been depressed and hyper-sensitive for weeks. But I've felt it too. I don't remember experiencing this sense of loss when Pearl stopping breast-feeding, but Marcia was already pregnant with Carrie. We already had our sights set on a new one. And I think maybe I felt that weaning would give me more of an equal relationship with Pearl (equal to the relationship Marcia had with her). And that did happen. We are not equal but certainly more equal.
With Carrie weaned, though, I feel very sad. I don't know that we will be having any more babies.
Wow, I remember when Carrie was born and now she's this walking weaning person. And your two girls look so much alike! (Both gorgeous too!)
As a new mom of my second (nine days old today) I can't imagine what it's like to be weaning the second one. I guess that sense of finality must be very unnerving. We are not sure if we're going to have any more kids either, so it will be interesting to see whether weaning has the same effect on me.

"don't know that..."
That sounds ambivalent.
hmmm....?

I hear ya sista! You know I am feeling your pain. And Marcia, Marcia, Marcia. Well you know me well enough by now that I am standing right there with you. Hang in there. It gets easier but it takes a while.

the pic is adorable!
I know everyone tells you how fast it all goes. I'm sure we will go through the same thing!!

(love those little thigh rolls! wish that was as cute on grown-ups.) I really can't believe how fast these little guys grow. It is really, really sad to lose our snuggly little babies. Personally, I think you guys are cut out for adoption! :) And on an unrelated note, Miles can't stop talking about Pearl and how they went on a "mission to mars" together. She is fantastic. You should have seen her running all over the field with Miles chasing her like a little puppy. She's the only girl he knows that he can't keep up with --she's much faster and more agile than he is. She's definitely a challenge for him! Hope to see you guys again soon.

i'd love to hear more about how this happened. cosmo is the same age as carrie, but i am just now considering starting the process of night weaning. i can imagine it is very sad to wean fully, even though this stage of "growing up" is also something to celebrate...

I remember being extremely depressed when some changes I made led to what I felt was a premature weaning with my son. I missed that bond terribly. I can so relate.

Noah isn't fully weaning yet, but I'm weaning from the pump and he will go to just cow's milk at day care starting the week after next. So it's been on my mind a lot.
I'm feeling the sadness and anticipatory sadness too. While we hope to have another baby, the plan is for my partner to be the biomom, so this is likely it for me. *sniff*
PS Noah also likes the Fujikawa book, but we had to alter the line, "Babies like to be changed." Not at our house!

My second (Adam) weaned himself very young.
It was crushing.

Wow. Carrie seems so big!! It seems like she was just brand new.
Well, I hope and the family get to enjoy the new freedoms of having no nursing babies. I remember being SO excited to put away my nursing bras and to just feel... free.
