Pearl at 3.5

Img_7008Pearl's love of storytelling continues to grow and evolve.  She gives her characters names such as "Jealousy" or "Phoebe 5-4-2," and the characters speak with special accents and intonations.  Each character is still a toy from her collection.  Often the setting is also a toy.  We have a barn, a garage, a race track, and airport.  Sometimes she builds the setting herself with blocks and tinker toys.  She says she wants to be a dinosaur for Halloween. In this photo, she's a triceratops.

Pearl is now 3.5 years old. Every day she asks, "Am I four yet?"

Great blog and pictures.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Robin!

Of course with every post about Pearl, I am quick to compare with the activities of my same-aged son. Some claim gender causes gaps in physical/cognitive development between sexes. Alas, I still compare.

Not sure if you read my blog, but I frequently post about Max's use of his imagination. And, although not exactly as Pearl, very similar.

I am curious if you have done any research as to what this type of behavior suggests about the level of cognitive development, etc. I have tried, but have come up virtually empty.

The reason why I am so curious, is because NO ONE else in his class is like this, nor are any other children I know this age--yet I know that this is not the first time a 3 year old uses his/her imagination to this extent.
