A B O U T
The Other Mother is really me, Robin Reagler. I am a writer living in Houston, Texas. My partner
Marcia and I have two daughters. Pearl was born in March
2004, and Carrie arrived in November 2005. In a lesbian family there are two moms. Marcia is the birth mother, and I am the "other" mother, which explains the name of this blog. Some folks refer to our pad
as Grrrlville.
In The Other Mother, I am recording stories and details of our daily life, providing particular answers to the question: What's it like to be a lesbian mom? Some of the more popular topics have been:
I work full-time as the Executive Director of
Writers in the Schools. I love my
job
at WITS because I truly believe that writing can change children's
lives for the better. It has certainly changed mine. My poems have
been published in dozens of journals, including Ploughshares, American
Letters & Commentary, VOLT, and Pleiades. I earned graduate degrees
at the Iowa Writers' Workshop and the University of Houston Creative
Writing Program. One of my essays on lesbian parenting appears in
Confessions of the Other Mother: Nonbiological Lesbian Moms Tell All
(Beacon Press, 2006). I keep another blog, Big Window, an inspiration portal featuring cool art, poetry, and photography. Feel free to send me an email.
