Halloween, that dark and stormy night, approaches. We are still in the brainstorming phase regarding Pearl's costume. Let us know if you have a great idea. Here are a few caveats: (1) Mosquitos are a bigger issue than cool temperatures in this part of the country. Weather here will be warm. (2) She can't walk. She can crawl very fast though. (3) Costume (should I say "costume"?) should cost little to NO money. With those restrictions in mind, have at it!
A Houston-sized mosquito, of course.
Black clothes. Antennae. Wings.

hmmmm....Harris' first halloween...at 3.5 months old...he was dressed in old navy halloween pjs...and it was actually the night he rolled over for the very first time (a sign of things to come, as he's never stopped MOVING since!).
last year...at 15 months...i bought him a piglet costume...and i have one good pic of him SCREAMING in it. he ONLY wore it for the picture. on halloween, he..again..wore old navy halloween pjs. though, for about an hour (during the childcare center's parade) he wore the top half of a home-made Robin (of Batman fame) costume. we were Robin and Robyn!
this year...i'm hoping for compliance. i'm wrestling up the makings of a cowboy costume..as Cowboy Gene of "sixteen cows" (a great book!) fame is one of his favorites. but i've also got a pair of old navy halloween pjs...as a fallback option.
for Pearl...i'd make her an oyster costume. need to think a bit more re: how to do it.

I am very bad mother. I just couldn't get into it on Jonas's first Halloween. I just didn't care and am not the type to get all mushy looking at him in some costume. So I didnt' do anything. HOLY CRAP-O-LA I got so much grief from my friends that you would have thought I had left him locked in a car on a 110 degree day with all of the windows up. They were so appalled that they actually bought his a frog costume the next year to ensure that would never happen again.
To avoid that kind of commotion this year I made sure to borrow a costume for Gabo three months ago. He's going to be tiger or whatever. Jonas wants to be a clown, despite my suggestion that a bee-clown would be very cute (as you probably guessed Liberty has an extra bee costume). It's a no go, thankfully he is designing this whole thing himself so all I have to do is paint his face and put on a red nose.
I know I am lame. It feels so contrived when the boys aren’t really that into it themselves. I am sure as soon as they start really caring, I'll get into the spirit of it.

I'm not sure you want advice from a woman who dressed her son as Elvis for his 2nd Halloween. Though it's a ridiculously easy costume to pull off. I'm just sayin' . . . If I think of anything when it's not at the end of a long, exhausting weekend, I'll post more ideas. We've mostly done cheap costumes on ebay, but from now on will be doing homemade because I'm sick of spending a small fortune for ONE FREAKIN' DAY. Besides, it's fun being creative about this holiday, so kudos to you for doing so!

All I can say is eBay, eBay, eBay! Great costumes - low cost.

Hard question to answer... we might do handmedown this year and then buy something next year... she might get it a little more then...
I like that oyster idea Roybn had! :)
Parents or Parenting had some good ideas if you have a baby carrier (Bjorn or something). You can actually decorate that and then stick baby in... like a nest and then just get a bird's beak or something like that...
I guess I am in the same boat as you!! What to do!???

Hee... oyster!
I was a pumpkin once. I seem to remember it involved a sheet, elastic, newspaper stuffing and orange spraypaint. And I was a witch one year. Of the stereotypical black-pointy-hat variety.
Halloween really isn't a big deal here. I've never seen kids as young as pearl dressed up - most start about school age. And some never get into it. Last year I got out the sweets just in case, but no kids showed up, and there's a lot of kids in our neighbourhood.

Martha has some nifty gigs a couple years back that couldn't cost more then you can count on two hands. I made the chicken two years ago, you might search her site.
