When Marcia and Pearl went to Montessori play school last fall, they fell in love with a chair. Check out the rasberry red Stokke KinderZeat. It arrived via ebay auction on Thursday, and despite our lack of handywoman skills, we somehow managed to assemble it on Friday.
Since then we've been eating dinner together as a family. It's a bit like Leave It To Beaver except in this case Beaver a.k.a. Pearl speaks exclusively in tongues.
Back in the 60s and 70s, both Marcia and I ate with our families every night. We both have our separate memories of storytelling, questions, and connections made around a round table. When we started our conversations about family life, as we were preparing for Pearl's arrival, it was one of the rituals we decided we'd like to k
eep.
So even though we aren't up to preparing elaborate 5 course meals, we have embarked on this all-American famiy ritual. Sometimes our hot food is dependent upon Collina's, the local pizzaria that delivers in our neighborhood. But we sit down together to break bread each night.
If you're in the Woodland Heights area around 6 p.m., we hope you will stop by and join us.
we have one. we love it. but Harris is OVER it. and only wants to sit in a big chair. arrgggh. good thing Toby's on his way! we got a blueberry one!

We try to have dinner together, too. Not every night but most nights. Mermaid Girl sits in a rickety old wooden high chair/stool that Renassance Woman had when she was a kid. No grownups are allowed to sit on it because it might fall apart. The Girl loves it.
That KinderZeat looks way cool, though.

I just love meals together as a family. It is the time of the day when I can ask my kids about their day. "What was the best part of your day?" "What was the worst part of you day?" We discuss everything from homework and teachers to strangers and drugs. I just wish the time could be longer!

I have KinderZeat envy.
Our place is just too small for an extra chair. We're going to go with the strap-on booster seat.

We have that chair! Same color even!

we have it too. Same colour as well! We have also changed the eating habits of our adult lives to try and eat at 6.00 with jacob every night. They do say eating early is good for you! Jacob's creche also use these chairs and I find it really useful. When he wants to watch me int he kitchen I just push it in and he can sit and chat (grftdgtnfj ndjfjf sysu blah mama? mama? mama?) without being able to actually crawl into the oven!
