Here in this photo Pearl is hard at work using my desk, my computer, my mouse, and my mouse pad. Icons zip around on the screen, as various messages pop up and quickly disappear. A lovely lecture in gibberish answers all my questions or concerns about the project at hand.
Lately Pearl has caught on to the linguistic trick of the POSSESSIVE. Suddenly she can pronounced things "mine," just like I do. I think it's the next power word to follow NO!
MINE! MINE! It has a nice ring to it.
Ahhhh the "mine" and "no" stage. That is often followed by stamping her wee foot and screaming bloody murder if her "mine" or "no" requests are not followed through!

My oldest daughter is almost two, and thankfully, has thus far avoided "MINE".
Picked up "jesus christ" however...
Does Pearl like "Too Big For Diapers"? It's that time in our house....

"Mine" may be amusing now, but from what I hear, it loses some of its charm when repeated incessantly. I wonder if there's a synonym....or a sane way to get through this stage of child-raising. (Having only a bunny rabbit, and no actual human children, I am blessed that he doesn't talk back. Ever. Bunnies don't have vocal chords.)

it's very interesting...this word, "mine". i had concerns initially...when at 13 months, his daycare teacher taught the class the sign for that word. but truly..it was a very important sign/word for them all. ya see...they were fighting over toys, as you might imagine...and the sign for mine, requires one to put one's hand on one's chest...thereby usually diffusing a physical fight. useful word.
