Pearl got to see a few of her favorite friends this weekend. Nellie spent the morning hours with her. They created their own beauty salon in our living room and painted their nails. Their efforts paid off. Pearl has orange polish on one foot, pink on the other; green on one hand and crimson on the other. She's got it going on.
Jack ran in the Houston marathon. We went out to cheer for him at 7 a.m. The crowd of runners was so dense that we saw him, but he didn't see us. However we got to celebrate with him at a victory party that afternoon. Pearl brought Jack the gift of pom poms. Carrie got to know Long a little better. It was a happy afternoon in Houston.
After hours (I tend to burn that midnight oil) this weekend, missing Jake weighed heavily on me. I think I cried more in the past few days than I have in the whole eight years we had him. I appreciate your kind thoughts and your stories. The concept of "furry children" rang true for me. Tonight I checked in with the volunteer coordinator for the adoption group. She had not heard anything from Jake's new family and is assuming that "no news is good news."
Jake'll be fine. You did a brave and generous thing finding him a new home.
Hang in there.

When the tech told us we were having a boy, all I could think of was, "But I can't paint a boy's nails!". Pearl looks so happy!
Checking up on Jake is an excellent thing to do and will help you through the grieving process. You made the right decision - even for Jake himself.

One of my dogs is problematic, not in the same way as Jake, but in an anxious, clingy way. He drives me crazy at times but I feel a duty towards him. It's really hard to think objectively about him, so I think you've been very brave and responsible to think your situation through so carefully and to take the path you have. I'm sure the adoptive family will have also thought carefully and will be wonderful to Jake.
