Recently Marcia and I participated in a University of Chicago study about lesbian moms and families. It will be the first study of its kind. There's a questionnaire part and an interview part. You don't have to do both. The questions are a little tedious, but on the positive side, we were forced to calculate how long we've been together (9 years, anniversary late May!). The interview part was fun. If you are in a lesbian couple and want to help, contact Sam. Here is the official announcement.
How has becoming a parent changed you?
How has the nonbirth mother in your family created a connection with her child?
What coparenting styles predict the best adjustment to parenthood among lesbian couples?
Help
us find answers to questions such as these! Volunteer for a study! Or,
spread the word about this study to others who could volunteer! You can
help us gather the information we need to respond to the needs of our
families and get a free GLBT friendly kids book in the process!
If
you are part of a female couple, living in the same household, and
raising at least one child between 2-7 yrs, conceived using donor
insemination, please consider participating in an ongoing study. We
need many couples to volunteer, so if you fit the requirements please
consider participating. If not, please let others who do qualify know
about the project. A GLBT friendly children’s book is offered as a thank you gift to volunteers and respondents can receive a report of the initial results when
they are ready.
Volunteers
are simply asked to fill out questionnaires, and couples in some
locations are also invited to
participate in a face-to-face interview.
Everything is confidential. Women couples of all kinds are needed,
and we hope to hear about the experiences from a diversity of
ethnicities, regions of the country, and 'lifestyles.' It is so
important that we develop a greater understanding of our families and
their needs. Please help in whatever way you can.
For more details, email [email protected]
or call Sam (Samantha) at 510-295-8963. This is a study developed at
The University of Chicago, Department of Comparative Human Development
by GLBT researchers and allies. Everything is completely confidential.
Thanks for the tip about this! I emailed her and I think we're going to participate.
