Is there a book (or song or video) that your kid loves that you hate?
My least favorite books that we own are the Barney books. I don't how or know why we have them in the house! Hand-me-downs, most likely. In my spare time (ha ha), I plan to confiscate them!
A close friend of mine once told me that Barney (the TV version) was the best form of birth control ever invented. However the effectiveness of this method is apparently short-lived because a year after she told me that, her husband got a vasectomy.
As the world turns....
Hey Robin, I remember when Barney hit UK TV and I first heard that revolting song! It was BANNED from then on....:-)

It's not that I HATE the book, but if I have to go through one more giant 20-page book looking for Goldbug(Richard Scarry)on every freakin' page I'm going to run screaming down the street.
There. I've said it. I DON'T CARE WHERE GOLDBUG IS!!!!

Ha! At least the book is less annoying than the show, right?

I am increasingly annoyed by books that miss the mark, which is ridiculous, since they are kids books and it most likely goes over their head. But still, I have to read them! I am talking about books like "I Love You Forever" and those horrible books Madonna has written. They are offensive to me in that the main characters, who are supposed to be having a character arc or displaying some admirable quality, instead show the yucky side of humanity. The rest, I am cool with. Hard to hate it when the kids are so enraptured, really.

I often thank my lucky stars that my son grew up when Barney did not have a role in childhood. :)

There is a Barney ban in this house. They have no idea who he is. That cloying voice. NO THANK YOU!
MOst movies played in this house are musicals - we speed through to dance numbers. Singing in the Rain, 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, On the Town (a particular favorite).
There is a new show on PBS called Danger Rangers. I can't stand the manic sounds but I love the message.

The Disney books that come from the movies are the ones I hate the most. Cinderella, Bambi II, and yuck! The Little Mermaid. We are heading straight for a princess phase. Anyone have any good books with princesses in them that aren't all about the boy? We have Paperbag Princess, which is great, but we need more!

Years ago, the son of a friend got hooked on Barney at his grandparents. When he returned to South Carolina, Barney was nowhere to be found. As a mother's day present, I taped two weeks worth of Barney for my friend.
I watched the first two minutes and wondered exactly why it was appropriate for kids to hallucinate a purple dinosaur to be a role model or teach anyone anything.
