When I was a kid, my parents took our pictures every year on the first day of school. I am holding a geeky book satchel for over a decade of photographs! Family habits die hard. Here are pictures of both girls on Pearl's first day of preschool.
Pearl was very positive about her first day. (In this context, please note that a "day" lasts from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.) On the way to school she told Carrie all about Fred the hermit crab. She met Fred last week, and indeed Carrie did get to take a gander at this crab. Marcia said that Pearl looked sad when she kissed her goodbye, but the teacher asked Pearl if she'd like to ring the bell to start their day. Yes, she said.
And that's my report. We don't know any more than that. We asked "what happened today at school" in all the toddler-friendly ways. Thus far, all we've gleaned is that she sat by "Virgilio" at snack time. Is there a Virgilio at preschool? Stay tuned!
You know, Robin, I think the "first day picture" is pretty universal. When I was growing up, my folks always took my picture, with new bag and new lunchbox, in front of the maple in our front yard. A year after my brother graduated from high school, that tree was struck by lightning, and had to come down. It was almost as if it had fulfilled its purpose, you know?
Glad to hear that Pearl is enjoying school!

Sweet, sweet, sweet.
I have no "first day of school" pictures -- but my folks weren't big picture takers.

What they told us at El Chico's preschool last year was that kids will never tell you anything if you ask them directly about their day, but if you start talking about what you did that day your child will start talking about what they did. I was skeptical, but so far it's worked. Who knew?
I love first day of school photos.

Jack's first day of pre-school was yesterday. He cried when I dropped him off, but assured me that. "School is fun!" when I picked him up. I think our children are about the same age, Robin. Jack is 3 1/2 and Emily just turned 1. Glad I stopped in here!
