Here a new bullet list of what's going on with us.
- Carrie has adjusted quickly to nursery school. She doesn't cry when she's dropped off. She seems to have assumed a leadership role of sorts. For example, she refuses to paint with her fingers. A brush is a must. All her classmates have followed suit.
- She likes to play peekaboo with her blue blankie. She likes to be turned upside down, but only temporarily. She tickles herself, tosses back her head, and laughs.
- Carrie likes to climb up the foot of her parents bed and use the remote control to turn on the television. Carrie is a television addict. She will watch absolutely anything, even static.
- She enjoys doing things that she knows are forbidden. Throwing food onto the floor, drinking soapy bathtub water, stealing Mommy or Baba's glasses from their faces--these are the true pleasures of life.
- Pearl can identify most of the letters of the alphabet, and she is learning to write her name.
- Her love of stories and storytelling continues to grow stronger. She dumps out all of her cars/trains/dinosaurs/farm animals, and uses them to create elaborate tales.
- Her favorite new book this month is The Different Dragon.
- Pearl loves climbing and running and playing in the park. Today she and her friend Miles were pretending to be brother and sister. She told me, "We even fell down together!"
- This month Marcia and I have embarked on vegetarianism. So far, it's going well. Our guidebook is Eat to Live by Joel Fuhrman.
- I'm growing herbs in clay pots on our back steps.
- Marcia has been doing video editing with her students. Here's one example.
- Marcia and I have an anniversary coming up, and we're brainstorming about how we want to celebrate it.
Your turn. What's up with you?
welcome to vegetarianism.
we're actually not purists. occasionally we eat fish, more occasionally poultry...for us, the goal is stay vegetarian & avoid burnout, not to be purists
though when i hear go vegan texas on the radio, i always want to be a vegan.
what made you all switch?

If you don't have it, yet, I HIGHLY recommend Deborah Madison's book Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone. It's my cooking bible. turtle swears by Crescent Dragonwagon's book The Passionate Vegetarian.
Good luck!

cosmo and carrie still look like twins! and cosmo also delights in trying things that he knows we don't want him to do. he looks right at us while he takes the chalk over to the couch to draw on it. i think he enjoys the dramatic reaction he gets, and i don't really know how to get around that since there are some things that you can't just ignore...like running out into the street, for instance...
good luck on the vegetarianism. i have been some form of vegetarian for going on 21 years. i now eat shrimp and fish, though i really only enjoy salmon--in small quantities. it can be a lot of fun learning new ways to cook and eat. there are lots of vegetarian recipes in non-vegetarian cookbooks too. my current favorite is mark bittman's _how to cook everything_

I have been vegetarian most of my life. Since I am post-menopausal and not on HRT I have to eat a lot of soy protein. I try and stick with mostly ethnic foods. If I eat out, we go to Thai, Indian, Ethiopian, Japanese, and Turkish foods. They have so many vegetarian options there. Also my favorite recipe website is http://www.vegweb.com. I am not sure where you guys live, but if you have a Whole Foods, Trader Joes, or local coop, they are great places to buy vegetarian things. My son informed me at a young age that he was a man and must have meat lol. Good luck to you! And just think how much fun it will be making your first vegetarian Seder!
