Here's a geeky question for you this weekend. Which (if any) of the "social networks" (a.k.a. Web 2.0) do you use or enjoy? I'm thinking of virtual arenas such as FaceBook, My Space, LinkedIn, Second Life, Twitter, Stumble Upon, and so on and so on. What do you get out of participating?
I do have a myspace page. It seems to be the most popular as far as locating old classmates and such. It's also ridiculous when it comes to spam sometimes.

community, social interaction, fun conversations. My grandparents had the country club, I have the virtual reinterpretation. For me, it all started back in the day with The Well. I love all these new groups (you forgot PMOG, the lazy community!) but nothing has ever come close to The Well.

I have facebook. I use it mostly to keep up with students' birthdays and to post pictures from student events. However, in the last few months about a dozen long lost college and grad school friends have found me there, and that's been amazingly fun.

I have myspace, facebook and friendster. I had friendster first, but no one seems to use it anymore, so I rarely visit it. Then was MySpace. I like it because if you add musicians/bands that you like as your friends, they will often post bulletins about shows and releases, which is nice. Now I've joined Facebook. Besides the music bulletin aspect, I prefer Facebook to MySpace. I like the newsfeeds so you can see what your friends have been up to without having to visit their profiles individually. But, I have about 1/5 of the friends on Facebook as on MySpace, so I continue to use MySpace just as much.
I find they are both great ways to keep up with former students (I was a high school teacher) and, more and more, my own classmates from high school and college are showing up as well.

I use LinkedIn. It is more of a professional network, but I use it as a way to keep track of people as they move around. Funny I just read this post today...
