Marcia's 9 month teaching gig (Saturdays only) ended last week, and this is our first two-day weekend together in quite a while. To celebrate that and the months we have managed to be vegans, Marcia signed us up for massages.
This was my first bodywork of any kind in four or five years, and it was trippy for me. I imagined that the two "babies" from my miscarriages came out of my body for an hour. They were beautiful, colorful butterflies of light, dancing in the air. I say "butterflies" only to suggest their way of moving; they were bodiless, rainbowy blips. Then they peaceably returned to me as the massage ended. It felt very positive and comforting.
The vegan lifestyle still feels extremely new. We don't have a repertoire of favorite foods. Once we understand that, it will make a big difference. I must say, though, that I don't dream of steaks or anything. Giving up animal products wasn't hard at all.
Have a great Sunday.
Wow, it wasn't hard to become vegan? That's impressive. I had a hard time. I was a vegetarian for several years, and decided to go vegan for a while (I was halfway there), but it was too much for me. I think I must like cheese too much. =D

I think Marcia misses the dairy a lot more than I do.

Hmmm. Rob says it wasn't hard to convert to veganism! She was only absolutely miserable for the first month--migraines, aches and pains, and plenty other "detoxing" stuff. How quickly we forget, dear!
I want to add that the vegan lifestlye seems doable--but not always easy-- when we eat every single meal at home. the two times we've traveled, it's been VERY DIFFICULT to stay on track. parties, public events, eating out--these are also tough.

Everything Marcia says is true. I did feel miserable for the first two weeks. What I meant is that giving up dairy products in particular wasn't hard for me. That's because I have a history of colitis, and I am in the habit of limiting dairy because of that. For example, I used only soy milk before launching on the path of the almighty vegan.

Hahahaha!
Yea, I think once you have a repertoire of favorite foods, it'll become that much easier. I think I survived veganism on lasagna with tofu masquerading ricotta, and vegan chocolate cake.
We've been trying to implement a "more vegetables" policy in our family (our two year old is so anti-veg lately -- whereas that was ALL she'd eat once she started solids). So hard. If ya'll come up with some great recipes your kids love, POST 'EM!! =D

Robin, I like the idea of releasing those lost babies during massage. i found that really touching. I am going to try that myself. Thanks!
