Let's say you were given $1,000 with the stipulation that you had to spend it online within the next hour. What would you do?
Books and CD's.

If I only had an hour, and I had to buy things for myself, I'd go to Amazon and start dropping books and CD into my cart until I hit $1000... That sounds like fun!

I would buy cool expensive stuff made by cool people that I usually can't justify buying. I would donate a bit of it. I would buy some books and music. Maybe I would pay a bill or two if that would count as "spending it online". Basically I would treat it like fun semi-unreal money, you know?

Buy as many Montessori materials as I could, of the kind that would be really hard to make at home.

What a great question. I have to think about this. Law books would be too boring.
I never buy tickets to the lottery but it's up to 140 million. I've been making plans since I bought the ticket. I keep thinking I'd finish law school - but Jefferson just starts laughing hysterically at that idea. We'd travel and travel and travel and then travel some more.

Fun! I would spend my thousand dollars on small extravagances -- first Powell's for books, then Sephora for a girly splurge. If there was anything left over after my Lipstravaganza, I'd go to Sur La Table and shop Le Creuset cookware.

Donate a huge chunk to get rid of it, buy yarn.

Later, when I thought of it, books and music. (Books are more important than music, but they can always be borrowed. I don't have budget space now for music.)
At the end, when I got desperate, I might just go to the website of some expensive clothing store and buy shoes, since that's about the only thing I'd feel okay buying without seeing first. And a skirt for good measure. (If only suits could be done online--again, not something I expect to have money for otherwise anytime soon.)
Or maybe I'd donate the shoe-and-skirt money also. Probably to Girls Inc.

I would buy an iPhone because it looks so cool but is such an extravagance. Then I'd probably use the rest for practical stuff: school supplies and clothes for the kids and maybe a nice bottle of wine for my hubbie.
