Carrie is now "two half," as she likes to say. She has very strong opinions and does not keep them to herself. She is the loudest member of our family. She makes up for a limited vocabulary with VOLUME. Her grimace is well-oiled and menacing. Like most two-year-olds, she adores the words NO and FREEZE and STOP RIGHT NOW.
Carrie loves to play jokes and pranks. She is known to say that her name is Lucy or Calliou or even Mommy! This morning at breakfast she insisted her age was "five half." You never know what to expect from her.
Carrie likes to make up stories. She loves to build elaborate castles, ships, and zoos with wooden blocks as settings for her tales and adventures. Often her favorite characters are dogs (lately, little German shepherds) or dinosaurs. Tigers and lions are also high on her list. As you know, our house is Story Central. Storytelling is our "television." These days Carrie's top plots are:
All the Dinosaurs Go To School
Doctor, I Have a Thorn in my Foot (paw, hoof, etc.)
Super-Hero to the Rescue
Despite her tough-as-nails exterior, Carrie is also, as her name suggests, extremely caring. She loves helping in the kitchen or the garden. She feeds the cat and pets her fur with genuine feeling.
Starting Montessori school has been a huge challenge for Carrie, and the two-week hurrication brought to us by Ike threw her for a loop. But I think the structure of the classroom will eventually appeal to her and give her strength.
Forgot to mention this milestone: Carrie is out of diapers, even at night!

Hi, I have a two and half year old girl, too, who is also opinionated and loud and has just started nursery school this month. She also recently claimed to be five. I think Carrie and June might have a lot in common.

I hope you realize the enormity and meaning of your gift (writing about your family/children) , or, maybe I should say, I hope Pearl and Carrie one day realize what a treasure they have!!! My mother died when I was 5 y/o. Would I love to find her "blog" about all of us during those precious years? How soon we forget . . . adults and children alike . . . what we don't ritualize (a word?--it should be!) and write for ourselves and posterity.
There I go . . . getting carried away. Thanks Robin . . .

In my head I have been pronouncing it 'carry,' because that's what we would do here in Oz. I now realise that it is more like 'carey!' Either way she is a feisty little thing whom I enjoy reading about, the same with Pearl. Thanks for sharing Robin!
